Functional Principle
Levitronix has developed a Bearingless viscometer
for the semiconductor industry, which is based on magnetic
levitation technology. With the Levitronix technology,
a slice shaped rotor is suspended and driven by the
magnetic field of a motor/bearing stator through the
wall of the viscometer casing without mechanical contact.
The viscometer head consists of two parts: a viscometer
rotor, which contains a rotor magnet, and a viscometer
casing. Both components are fabricated from chemically
resistant high-purity fluorocarbon resins. The levitated
rotor slice rotates within the process fluid. By avoiding
mechanical friction, the motor torque is determined
by the fluid friction losses in the measurement gap
and therefore is proportional to fluid viscosity. This
leads to a highly accurate viscosity measurement and
also helps to minimize particle generation.
