Levitronix has developed a revolutionary centrifugal pump that has no bearings to wear out or seals to break. Based on the principles of magnetic levitation, the pump's impeller is suspended contact-free inside a sealed pump housing.

Motor
The motor generates the magnetic field for both the levitation and the rotation of the impeller.

Pump Head
The pump head consists of a pump housing, a pump impeller and a static O-ring. All wetted parts are made from chemical resistant, high-purity fluorocarbon resins.

Magnetic Field and Magnetic Forces
The rotation, radial position and levitation of the impeller are actively stabilized by electronically controlled magnetic fields. The radial position of the impeller and its rotation are continuously measured by sensors. A powerful Digital Signal Processor (DSP) controls the magnetic fields related to desired speed and radial positioning. The remaining three spatial degrees of freedom are passively stabilized. Axial displacement and tilting of the impeller result in attracting magnetic forces, which act in the opposite direction to the displacement, and therefore, stabilize the position of the impeller.

Fluid Flow
By electronically regulating the speed of the impeller, fluid flow rate and pressure are precisely controlled and any pulsation is eliminated.

Key Features and Benefits
The magnetic levitation of the pump impeller results in the following:
  • No friction resulting in reduced downtime and lower maintenance costs.
  • No particle generation.
  • A wide clearance between the pump casing and impeller eliminates dead spaces preventing particle agglomeration. It also results in lower shear rates.
  • Ease of cleaning, sterilization and impeller replacement.
  • Extremely low vibration and noise.
  • Small in size compared to diaphragm and bellow pumps.
